Description

Voigtlander Nokton 21 mm f/1.4 is a bright, versatile wide-angle lens that surprises with its phenomenal image quality and extremely shallow depth of field. The optical design is derived from the Ultron 21mm f/1.8, but it has undergone some significant modifications that give the lens a boost in imaging quality and brightness.

Perfection in every inch

The optical design, based on the design of the Ultron 21mm f/1.8, has been refined with the addition of two lenses that are aspherical on both sides and three made of ultra-low dispersion glass. A total of 13 optical elements are arranged in 11 groups. All this to raise the imaging quality of the lens to an even higher level and adapt it to the requirements of modern cameras equipped with sensors with a resolution of 48 or 60 million pixels.

Wide angle

The lens’ focal length of 21 mm puts it between the super-wide “fifteen” and the classic “thirty-five”. The 90.3° angle of view and a short minimum focus distance of 50 cm (on a rangefinder camera) allow you to capture the atmosphere at the heart of the action in your photos or movies. The optical distortion often encountered in short focal lengths is almost completely eliminated in the Nocton 21 mm f/1.4. The lens will prove ideal when shooting landscapes and architecture. In wedding, street and reportage photography it will allow you to capture the main subject of the photo against the background of his environment.

Egyptian darkness

The lens has been given the name Nokton not without reason. The f/1.4 aperture combined with the short focal length allows you to shoot “handheld” in any lighting conditions. However, the ability to work in almost complete darkness is not the only advantage of Nokton.

Depth and Plasticity

The aperture, operating from f/1.4 to f/16, is responsible not only for the amount of light falling on the camera’s sensor and exposure time, but also for the depth of field of the painted image. Fully open it allows to create images so far unprecedented in lenses of this focal length, extremely plastic, with a clear separation of the subject from the background. The 12-blade aperture gives the out-of-focus areas a pleasant, velvety feel. Such an image was previously the domain of standard and telephoto lenses. Those days are gone. When you push the aperture to a larger value, you get an image full of high-quality detail from the center of the frame to the edges.

Quality without compromise

The Voigtlander brand is renowned for the highest quality workmanship of its lenses. It is no different in the case of the Nokton 21 mm f/1.4. The focus ring moves smoothly but with the necessary resistance for accurate work. The barrel, made entirely of metal, will maintain exceptional precision of operation for many years of use.
